The bigger the job, the smaller the fee is as a share of it, because it doesn't change.

What it costs

There are two prices, and which one applies depends on the size of the project. The warranty differs between them, so it's set out here rather than in small print.

Projects up to £2,500

£25 per project

Projects over £2,500

£45 per project

  • 3 months during the work, then 2 years after completion

There's nothing to pay on top

Your tradesperson adds the fee to the price they quote you, so it's already inside the figure you agreed. You don't pay it separately and there's no bill at the end.

It comes out of the completion payment, the 10% taken at the start of the project, so it's settled from the beginning and never affects a stage payment.

The only other cost is a 30p transaction fee each time a payment is processed through the platform. This is paid by you, not your tradesperson.

Your tradesperson gets the £12,000 they quoted for the work. The £45 platform fee is inside the price you agreed, and you pay 30p each time a payment is processed through the platform.

What the warranty covers

On projects over £2,500, the work is covered for three months while it's going on and two years after it finishes, up to £20,000. It's underwritten by a fully authorised, A-rated insurer.

£20,000 is the most the warranty will pay out. On a job worth more than that, the cover doesn't stretch to the full contract value, worth knowing before you start, particularly on a large extension.

For trades

Registration is free, and you pay a one-off sign-up fee on your first project only, never again, and nothing per job after that. The project fee is your customer's, not yours: you add it to your quote, and it's taken from the completion payment at the start. Every stage payment reaches you as a clean amount.

Is £45 really the whole cost?
Yes, on any project over £2,500. The only other cost is a 30p transaction fee each time a payment is processed through the platform.
What is the 30p transaction fee?
Every payment processed through the platform costs 30p. This is paid by you, the consumer, not your tradesperson.
Is it on top of what my tradesperson quoted?
They add it to their quote, so it's inside the price you agreed before anything started.
Why is the fee mine and not my tradesperson's?
Trusted Payments acts on your behalf, not theirs. The fee is for the service you're getting.
When is it taken?
From the completion payment at the start of the project, so it never affects a stage payment.
Is there a monthly cost?
